Questions
What is Perry?
Perry is a free, open-source AI helper that lives in your Mac’s notch. Ask how to do something in any app, and Perry points at each control in turn. Ask it to do the task, and it does the work while you watch, with a stop button always in reach.
How do I ask Perry something?
Hold ⌃⌥ and talk, or double-tap ⌃ to type. Perry opens from the notch at the top of your screen and answers there.
What does it cost?
Nothing. Perry is free and open source under AGPL-3.0, with no account and no subscription. Use the ChatGPT or Claude plan you already pay for, or an API key from the provider you choose.
Which Macs does it run on?
Macs with Apple silicon on macOS 14 or later. Macs without a notch get the same home at the top edge of the screen.
What can it see?
Only the window you’re working in, and only during a session you start. Perry never reads or acts in banking, password manager or checkout windows. It explains Accessibility, Screen Recording and Microphone access before macOS asks for each one.
Does it keep my screenshots?
No. Screenshots stay in memory while you work together. Perry never saves them.
Where do my requests go?
Straight from your Mac to the brain you pick: your ChatGPT or Claude plan, an API key, or a model on your own Mac. Perry has no server and no telemetry. API keys stay in the macOS Keychain.
Will it act without asking?
Not on anything that can’t be undone. Sending, deleting, overwriting and buying wait for your click. Your voice alone is never enough.
Is it out yet?
Yes. Perry 0.1.0 is a public beta, signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Download it from GitHub. Later versions arrive through the built-in updater.
